In 1964 I watched the film “Zulu” committing myself to travel to see Rorke’s Drift one day. Decades later I learned there was more to the story about a battle the English won. Queen Victoria awarded the first of her Cross’s to eleven of the 136 men who prevailed against 4000 Zulu’s. Rorke’s Drift was the second conflict fought that day in the late 1800’s. The first was Islandwana about 15 miles to the east where all 1200 Brits were killed by 20,000 tribesmen protecting their turf.
Linda took this photograph that shows the Zulu Warrior Necklace in front to the peak at Islandwana. (That’s our Hyundai rental.)
